Collective adaptive behaviors in the frame of Alex storm 2020: The community as the source of resilience
In order to tell you more about my work, I would like to take you in a trip inside yourself. So, you are asked to think about the place you are at this moment.
Can you feel your body, your hands, your legs? Are you conscious about the risks around you? Maybe there are some obstacles on your way... What about the people who are near to you? Are they your family, your friends, your collegues? Who are these people? What do they do? What kind of skills do they have to respond to disasters? Do you think you are prepared enough to respond to weather constraints? If you feel prepared, do you think your behavior would be altruistic or selfish? So many questions, right?
Well, my thesis is about the collective adaptive behaviors in crisis situations. Actually, I'm interested about the collective responses of solidarity and altruism. To understand human behaviors in extreme situations, I study the cases of the Roya valley and the Vesubia Valley after the Alex storm which took place the night of october the 2nd to the 3rd. These cases are very interesting for me because the solidarity chain was engaged immediately after the event, and it is still mobilized 'til present. Many social structures based in the community were engaged until now, which allows a fast recovery for these places.
So, I invite you to follow my work which will be enriched with a psycho-social perspective and an interactionist approach based in the community.
