Computer Science and Digital Society (LIST3N)
From data to decision: How can scientific and multidisciplinary methods help the digital society?
The LIST3N (Computer Science and Digital Society) laboratory develops efficient approaches (concepts, models, methods and tools) to deal with the entire data processing chain, from sensors to uses, through data analysis and optimization. This research unit project is the result of a reconfiguration of four existing research teams: ERA, LOSI, M2S and Tech-CICO. The new structure includes 76 permanent researchers for a total staff of 165 people.
The UR's scientific project is based on the design of an integrated processing chain. The primary objective of this integrated approach is to promote the design of new methods and methodological advances in the disciplines by taking into account the specificities of the different links in the chain. Each link contributes to the performance of the overall chain while evolving in a constrained space imposed by its connection to the other links in the chain.
Traceability, explicability and robustness of the processing chain will be the three pillars of our approach. Indeed, since data is at the heart of the Research Unit's project, following an approach that guarantees the confidence of the users and suppliers of this data will ensure the sustainability and acceptability of the technological developments that will be undertaken as part of this project.
New mathematical strategies and approaches will be proposed to design, study and optimise the overall processing chain. This project will also use UR platforms to validate these approaches and to remove any technological barriers in a real operational environment.
The disciplines present in the LIST3N are mainly in the field of ICST (Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies), with a presence of SHS (Human and Social Sciences: (information and communication sciences, sociology, psychology, management sciences). It is thanks to this presence that multidisciplinary research can be conducted in order to respond to the problems of the Digital Society.
Our scientific programme is based on three main objectives :
- The development of concepts, models, methods and tools for the entire data processing chain for the digital society.
- To propose approaches centred on our scientific axes and by link in the chain, but also to propose multidisciplinary approaches and on the entire treatment chain. This is the originality of our programme.
- Responding to societal challenges such as the industry of the future and the digitalisation of companies, health and the entire organisation of care in hospitals and at home, energy and its transitional issues and finally agronomy through the management of these resources. The objective is clearly to remove the major scientific barriers.
