BWS plus 2017 - 2020
Introduction
Nanotechnology and optical technologies are key technologies of the 21st century. They master large areas of current basic research as well as technology transfer to applications such as opto-electronic components, sensors and modern light sources. Considerable equipment is usually required for the fabrication of nanostructures as well as for carrying out highly sensitive and high-resolution optical and spectral investigations, which also requires considerable investment. This challenge is increasingly taken into account by establishing higher-level platforms, core facilities and device centers in order to bundle expertise and infrastructure in a profitable manner. At the L2n lab (Light, nanomaterials and nanotechnologies) at UTT Troyes, the Nano'Mat platform for materials nanocharacterization and nanofabrication was founded in 2011 (together with the University of Reims), and finalised by the opening of a new research and clean room building in 2015. The scientific Center for light-matter interaction, sensors and analytics (LISA +) was founded almost simultaneously at the Tübingen EKUT 2011, which was elevated to the core facility of the university in 2012. The Centers each comprise several working groups from physics and chemistry and have a strong content coherence. In the area of light-matter interaction, in particular, fruitful cooperation between researchers from both centers has existed for many years (joint projects, seminars, doctorates in Cotutelle, invited professorships). However, these were mainly individual measures that were financed at short notice or through the working groups.
These connections have been expanded within the framework of the BWS plus program for a lively scientific and methodical exchange between the members of both Centers in the field of nanofabrication and nano-optics. Indeed, this project focus its tasks on specific Center-based trainings, i.e. for bachelor, master and doctoral students as well as teaching staff, instrument scientists and Center management.
Annual workshops on the subject of light-nanomatter interaction, which take place alternately at UTT (years 1 and 3) and EKUT (year 2), serve as a content barriers. The first joint workshop is the kick-off event for this project. During the first year, the exchange of bachelor and master students as well as the exchange of academic staff are achieved. The young scientists are integrated into the working groups of the partner university, exchange nanostructured samples, which are examined at both locations with complementary methods, and take part in intercultural events at the host university (see below). As a plus in this project, the relationships between the core facility for nanofabrication and analysis at UTT and the Tübingen core facility LISA + are intensified. For this purpose, two mutual training schools (EKUT in year 1, UTT in year 2) for instrument scientists, members of the center management and / or advanced users are carried out at the complementary instrument parks of Nano'mat and LISA +. This serves to expand the methodological knowledge of those responsible for the device and can provide valuable insights into the organizational structures and suggestions for the instrumental development of the core facilities. In the final workshop 2020, the strategy for the continuation of the cooperation is to be determined with the involvement of the internationalization offices.
