Logistics and Optimization of industrial Systems

The research activities of the Logistics and Industrial Systems Optimization team are around logistics and production systems. The objective is to develop decision-making tools to optimise performance of complex systems, from the design phase through to the operational phase, in terms of efficiency and competitiveness.

The Laboratory has brought together specialists of research areas in the field of production system design and management, the supply chain and transport. Our methodology consists in working out relevant models for real systems, in analysing their mathematical properties and then developing optimisation algorithms and efficient simulation methods.

The tools used are those of operational research in its widest sense: linear and non-linear programming, graphs, Petri nets, exact methods such as branch-and-bound and branch-and-cut, performance-guaranteed heuristics, metaheuristics, simulation.

The LOSI Team’s main asset is using a wide range of mathematical and computer tools for the most efficient decision-making in complex goods and services production systems.

The research of the LOSI is currently articulated around four main themes:
  • Design of production or logistics systems (Resp .: Dr. Alice Yalaoui),
  • Scheduling, planning and management of operations (Resp: Dr. Faicel Hnaien),
  • Performance evaluation and logistics chain management (Resp .: Prof. Haoxun Chen),
  • Optimization of transport and rich problems of vehicle tours (Resp .: Pr. Christian Prins).

Projects

LOSI is involved in both academic research, partnership and technology transfer. This investment is reflected in the responsibility and participation in many national and international projects such as ANR projects (National Research Agency), PIA (Future Investment Project) including recently the TDCU project (Collaborative transport in distribution urban), CPER (State-Region Plan Contract) and many CIFRE theses or equivalent (with industrial partners such as: SNCF, NORELEM, CAILLAU, FUTURMASTER, ARIES PACKAGING, etc.) (more than 12 theses since 2003).
