About me

I am a French engineer currently doing my PhD in collaboration with the CREIDD laboratory of the University of Troyes, and Groupe PSA. After two years of preparatory classes in Rouen, I entered the “Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers” of Lille. I spent the two first years there. During the third and last year, I went to Montréal (Canada) for four months, in order to study at the “Ecole de Technologie Supérieure”. Then I came back to France where I did my end-of-study internship at Groupe PSA. My internship dealt with the methods of monetarization of environmental impacts: my goal was to make a state-of-the-art of monetarization methods, and to evaluate these methods according to different criteria that I determined with another student working on the same project. We worked in collaboration with several members of EcoSD Network, and concluded the project by writing a “White book” (Livre Blanc) whose goal is to guide eco-designers who are willing to implement a monetarization method. This book delivers an evaluation grid of monetarization methods, so that eco-designers can choose the most adapted method for their study according to the different criteria evaluated in the grid.

My PhD

My PhD deals with the sustainability of complex systems. The ultimate goal of the thesis is to propose a methodology to help integrate the sustainability of complex systems, based on the CSR strategies of companies. Companies get involved in sustainable development through their CSR strategy at the strategic level. Taking into account sustainability issues is especially relevant during the design phase as this phase determines 70% to 80% of the environmental and social impacts of products and services. But there is a lack of connection between the CSR strategy – strategic level – and the design phase – operational level. Even if a lot of “design for sustainability” methods exist, they are not directly linked to the CSR strategy and to the strategic sustainable commitments of the company. My goal is to create a methodology to establish this connection, which is flexible enough to be applicable to different companies with different CSR strategies, different priorities, different design stages and a very different network of actors. My case study will be in the automotive industry, at Groupe PSA.
